3. Sweet Home Chicago – The Blues Brothers
In addition to being a Cubs CD, “Take Me Out to a Cubs Game” is also a Chicago
CD, and “Sweet Home Chicago” is one of the best known songs to pay homage to the
Cubs’ home town. This particular version of “Sweet Home Chicago” was recorded by
Dan Akroyd and John Belushi, who formed the musical duo known as the Blues
Brothers. In the film “The Blues Brothers,” Elwood Blues gives out a fake
address: 1060 W. Addison, which Cubs fans know to be the address of Wrigley
Field. The Wrigley Field marquee is also featured in the film. Many artists have
recorded many versions of “Sweet Home Chicago” over the years. One of the things
that makes this recording unique is at one point in the song, instead of “sweet
home Chicago,” Jake and Elwood sing “MY sweet home Chicago.” Not surprising,
considering John Belushi’s strong Chicago roots.
